Texas' principle manufactured products are chemicals and allied products, petroleum and coal products, food and kindred products, and transportation equipment. Texas' principle farm products are cattle, grain, cotton, wheat, rice, and dairy products. Texas' primary minerals are petroleum, and natural gas. It is no longer a lonely plain, but, rich in natural resources, it is to-day a progressive and a prosperous state. Unlike any other state, it was an independent republic when admitted into the Union. It was named for the Tejas Indians, a federation of tribes of the territory; friends is given as the probable meaning of the name.
